Adapted from the painting "The Flamingos" by Henri Rousseau, this mosaic painting (1.80m x 1.00m) is made from brightly coloured Smalti glass.

Smalti glass was first made by the Byzantines in Venice, and is still made today in a large range of colours. It is opaque and reflects light. Gold leaf is also encased in various coloured glass to make outstanding shimmering tesserae.

Made as a removable plaque and set in cement with a metal frame and transported to the site in one piece, this mosaic was inserted into a space made especially for it.
